Cameras and door access are security systems, and they live on your network like everything else. When they're installed by someone who doesn't think about the network, you end up with cameras on default passwords, recorders open to the internet, and footage nobody can find after an incident. Mash IT installs cameras and access control as part of your IT, secured and documented the same way as the rest of your systems.
What the project includes
- Camera placement. Entrances, parking areas, reception, storage rooms and anywhere else that matters to your business, planned to cover what you need to see.
- Network video recording. Footage stored on a recorder sized for the number of cameras and how long you need to keep it.
- Door access control. Key fob or card access for exterior doors and sensitive rooms, with a record of who opened which door and when.
- A separate camera network. Cameras and recorders on their own network segment, with default passwords changed and remote viewing set up securely.
- Remote viewing. Live and recorded video on approved phones and computers, without exposing the recorder to the open internet.
- Cabling. Power over Ethernet runs to each camera and reader, handled with our low voltage cabling work.
Who it's for
Offices, warehouses and plants that want to protect people, inventory and equipment, and businesses that need a record of who came and went. In healthcare, HIPAA's physical safeguards expect controls on who can get into areas where patient information lives, so door access and cameras often come up as part of healthcare IT and compliance work. Manufacturers often use them for loading docks and the plant floor.
How the work runs
- Walkthrough. We walk the property with you and mark where cameras and readers go.
- Design. You get a plan covering camera and reader locations, recording retention and who gets access to what.
- Installation. Cabling, cameras, readers and the recorder go in, and access credentials are set up for your staff.
- Configuration and testing. Recording, remote viewing and door schedules are set and tested.
- Training. We show you how to find and export footage and how to add or remove a person's door access.
Timelines depend on the number of cameras and doors and the condition of the building. From you, we need a list of who should have access to which areas and how long footage needs to be kept.
What you get at the end
- Cameras covering the areas you identified, recording on a secured system.
- Door access you can manage as people join and leave.
- A map of camera and reader locations.
- Simple instructions for finding and exporting footage.
Ongoing support
Cameras and recorders need firmware updates like any other networked device, and door access needs updating every time someone joins or leaves. Our network management service keeps the system patched and monitored as part of your network.
We install cameras and access control for businesses in Lexington and across Central Kentucky.
Common questions
Yes. We set up remote viewing for the people you approve, without opening the recorder to the internet.
That's your call. We size the recorder for the number of cameras and the number of days you need to keep, and set retention to match.
Yes. When someone leaves, their fob or card can be turned off immediately, and the system keeps a record of door activity.
Door access and cameras support HIPAA's physical safeguards for controlling access to areas with patient information. Your organization still owns its compliance program; we make the physical security side hold up.
